Instagram? Instagone.
The Brutal Honesty brand received notification today that Instagram had suspended our account, claiming it was a fake account and thus violated their policies. They did not cite any other reasons, simply: fake account, suspended.
We had to verify a phone number and send a selfie to appeal the decision. You don’t get any other “appeal our decision” options. Apparently, a commercially viable website on its own domain (with a shop on a sub-site), an actual working telephone number and a photograph of an actual human being (that can be seen on the Facebook account associated with the Instagram account, and said Facebook account has been active for over 20 years) are still indicators of a fake account, according to Instagram. Account permanently disabled.
Rather than creating a new account and posting our content, we have decided we will reciprocate. Instagram social sharing and any references – other than negative ones – will no longer appear on our site, products, posts, or other content.
Expect a new category for Brutal Honesty brand wear very soon, my friends.
Instagram? Instagone. Instagarbage. Insta-good-riddance.
We aren’t into fake stuff anyway, and we don’t use filters on our selfies, like the bulk of Instagram’s users do, so we’re sorry, but Instagram doesn’t offer a cohesive and brand-suitable aesthetic or internet home for our products. 🙂
(We might create a new business account on Instagram, just to be contrary.)
Until then, find us on Facebook, Tumblr, and Bluesky. We are also working on building our presence on other social sites, so stay tuned. Make sure you sign up for our email subscription so you get the news as it goes live.
The truth looks good on you!
